According To Voyager 2, Our Solar System Is A Giant Egg
July 3, 2008
Boston (ChattahBox) - According to new data sent back from Voyager 2, our solar system appears to be nothing but a giant egg.
The Voyager 2 has been sending back data for 30-years as it heads towards interstellar space, and has revealed that our solar system is shaped like a big egg.
Voyager 2 recently passed what is known as termination shock, when outbound solar wind hits with the inbound energetic particles from interstellar space. It surrounds the entire solar system, holding it in something called a heliosphere.
Voyager 2 reached the egde of the solar system 7 billion miles from the sun, while it took Voyager 1 nearly 8 billion miles.
This means that the heliosphere is shaped more like an egg than anything else.
This is the first time researchers have been able to see what happens at the termination shock point.
