Scientists Unveil Portrait Under Van Gogh “Patch” Painting
July 31, 2008
Boston (ChattahBox) - Scientists have been able to uncover a portrait underneath the famous Vincent Van Gogh panting, Patch of Grass.
European scientists have managed to reconstruct the original portrait using technology which was unavailable in the past.
According to the Los Angeles Times, scientists used a new type of technology called synchrotron X-rays as they were able to recreate what the original portrait would look like.
The belief is that Vincent Van Gogh originally created a painting of this peasant woman, then covering it up with what became Patch of Grass.
Experts believe that Vincent Van Gogh did this quite often in his early paintings, as he would re-use canvases.
