Global Warming Melts Arctic Ice To Extremely Low Level
August 28, 2008
Boston (ChattahBox) - Global warming has apparently caused the Arctic sea ice to melt to its second-lowest level in recorded history.
The National Snow and Ice Data Center released a report showing that the Arctic sea is at its second-lowest level in history.
The only time that it was lower was in the year 2007.
Back in 1979, researchers began to record the levels of the Arctic sea ice.
The lowest level was recorded in 2007, when just 1.65 million square miles were covered.
This year marks the second-lowest level in history, as only 2.03 million square miles are covered.
Researchers believe that they are now at a “tipping point” in the Arctic, as global warming continues to get worse.
