October 29, 2008
Washington (ChattahBox) - Researchers in the U.S. have found that grapes improve the overall health of your heart, reducing blood pressure, cutting heart attack risk, etc.
Researchers from the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan carried out the study to look at how regular table grapes helped your heart health.
Lab rats were placed on either a high-salt or low-salt diet, with half in each group receiving grapes as part of the diet.
For the study, the lab rats were followed for a period of 18 weeks.
They found that the rats who received the grapes had lower blood pressure.
This was constant in both the high-salt and low-salt diet groups.
The rats who ate grapes had overall improved heart function, reduced inflammation, and less signs of heart muscle damage.
The study has been published in the Journal of Gerontology: Biological Science.
