Alaska’s Mt. Redoubt Set To Blow, Scientists Warn

January 30, 2009

Alaska (ChattahBox) – Anchorage residents are stocking up on dust masks and protective goggles, as scientists warn of an imminent volcanic eruption.

Researchers at the Alaska Volcano Observatory have been monitoring recent underground earthquake activity under Mount Redoubt, an active volcano in the area. According to the results, a volcanic eruption is set to occur shortly, the first from Redoubt since 1992.

As there is rarely any magma associated with this Alaskan volcano, it is ash and dust that has residents running to the local hardware store.

“Every time this happens we do get a run on dust masks and goggles,” Phil Robinson, who manages Alaska Industrial Hardware, said.

“That’s the two main things for eye and respiratory protection.”
