UPDATE: Woman Given First Near-Full Facial Reconstruction Speaks Out

February 17, 2009

Illinois (ChattahBox) – The woman who received the first ever nearly-full facial transplant, as previously reported here on ChattahBox, has spoken out, saying that she is happy with the results.

The unnamed woman had suffered a tragic accident, which had left her with severe facial deformity, including the absence of a nose, jaw, and right eye. After years of hiding herself away, hurt by the painful comments and stares of the public when she left her home, she says she is finally comfortable with her face.

While she says it is still too soon to know how she will look once she recovers, she speaks of the satisfaction of being able to reach up, and feel a nose on her face once again.

In addition to the cosmetic results, she is also able to smell and taste once again, two functions that had been impossible before.

She can finally live happily, with self confidence, once again.
