Green Comet To Pass By Earth

February 21, 2009

UK (ChattahBox) – University of Leicester scientists are eagerly awaiting the arrival of a green comet, which will pass close enough to Earth to be visible to the naked eye on February 24th.

The comet, nicknamed Lulin, will come within 38 million miles of Earth, and be easy to see within the sky. It’s proximity, added to it’s unique color, has scientists excited for it’s arrival, which they say will allow them to gain information on a comet that has never before entered out solar system.

β€œIt is important to carry out these observations as they give us clues about the origin of comets and the solar system,” Jenny Carter, one of the scientists involved, said.

They will be using the Swift satellite, on loan from NASA, to witness and record the event.
