I am the owner of a Chocolate Lab & he regularly surprises me with his ability to figure things out. I can tell by the expressions on his face that he ‘knows things’. The problem is he just can’t speak! Well, sort of, because his barks are quite distinct; protest VS. joy…… He lets me know what he wants with his barks. And I am quite convinced that he IS smarter than some people I’ve known.

No surprise there; my sister was born with Down’s Syndrome and our German Shepard certainly did come across as more intelligent.
