House From The Time Of Christ Found In Nazareth
December 21, 2009
Israel (ChattahBox) – A house, the first to be discovered in Nazareth from the early Roman period, has been unearthed, and archeologists say that it would have belonged to neighbors or family of Jesus of Nazareth.
The house was found almost completely intact, giving insight into the life of the working class during the time.
“It’s the first house dating from the early Roman period to be discovered in Nazareth itself,” Yardenna Alexandre of the Israel Antiquities Authority explained.
“It would have been a small Jewish village in the time of Jesus, and most of the houses have been destroyed or covered up so this is a very significant find.”
It showed a home filled with few luxuries, with nothing imported from outside of the town. It speaks of a simple and hard life, with little money for more than the basic needs of human life.
The house will be kept intact and preserved for a Christian exhibit.
