Scientists Predict Earth-Like Planet Will Be Found Within 5 Years
January 9, 2010
U.S. (ChattahBox) – With the Kepler telescope already making a handful of discoveries this week, astronomers at NASA are now saying that a discovery of an Earth-like planet is imminent.
During a discussion at the annual American Astronomical Society conference, it was widely agreed that all evidence points to a great number of planets capable of supporting life.
With that in mind, scientists believe that within the next five years we will discover our first, which may lead to the answer of the question of whether or not we are alone in the universe.
“The fundamental question is: Are we alone? For the first time, there’s an optimism that sometime in our lifetimes we’re going to get to the bottom of that,” astronomer and leader of the Ames Research Center, Simon “Pete” Worden, said.
“If I were a betting man, which I am, I would bet we’re not alone.”
The discovery may be coming even sooner, as there is hope that discoveries of five ‘hot’ planets last week might be a sign that we could have something by the end of the year.
