Hubble Telescope Shows Star Devouring Planet In First Ever Capture

May 24, 2010

(ChattahBox) – The Hubble telescope has managed to log data of a planet nearby a large star that is being devoured and consumed as it is being pulled in.

WASP-12b has been pulled into a football shape and increased in size by several times its’ normal mass, and now it is more than 40 times larger than Jupiter.

It has also heated to a whopping 2,800 F.

“We see a huge cloud of material around the planet, which is escaping and will be captured by the star. We have identified chemical elements never before seen on planets outside our own solar system,” Carole Haswell of The Open University said.

The results of their study on the planet and the star that is destroying it is being published in Astrophysical Journal Letters.
