Former NBA Referee Donaghy Gets 15-Months In Prison
July 29, 2008
Washington (ChattahBox) - Former NBA referee Tim Donaghy has received a 15-month prison sentence on Tuesday for his role in a gambling scandal, which involved him betting on NBA games.
Donaghy entered a guilty plea last August to conspiracy to engage in wire fraud, as well as transmitting betting information through interstate commerce.
The 15-month prison sentence he received was light, considering he could have received up to 33-months.
Donaghy admitted to using certain language to tip others involved in the scandal about injuries of players, among other things.
He also stated that he would receive money for correctly picking games, with ties to the mob and other bookies.
Two others involved in the case received prison sentences last week of over a year as well.
