March 17, 2009

(ChattahBox)–Cleveland Brown’s wide receiver, Donte’ Stallworth, is expected to be criminally charged soon, because of a deadly Miami accident on Saturday. Stallworth was driving his a Bentley in Miami, early Saturday morning when he struck 59 year old, crane operator Mario Reyes as he was crossing the MacArthur Causeway to get to a bus stop. Reyes was a Cuban immigrant and family man, working most of his life as an overnight crane operator. Twenty-eight year old Stallworth was reported to be openly distraught at the scene of the crash and cooperated with the Miami police, submitting to standard drug and alcohol testing.

Police expect to receive Stallworth’s blood test results in a few days and will proceed with any appropriate charges at that time. A Yahoo Sports update quotes police sources, indicating a charge of reckless driving, at the very least is planned. The NFL is reported to be closely watching for any criminal charges brought against Stallworth.

Stallworth, a former player for the New England Patriots, recently signed a seven-year, $35 million deal with the Cleveland Browns. Stallworth had a previous run-in with Miami police in 2006, when he was arrested after a traffic stop, but he was not prosecuted.
