Hopefully Detroit Lions won’t get fooled again by Mel Kiper Jr.

March 26, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Mel Kiper Jr., ESPN’s supposed top draft analyst, says the Lions have no choice but to take Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford with the first pick in the NFL draft. The talking head praised Stafford’s arm strength, labeling it in the “rare category,” during a teleconference Wednesday morning.

Keep in Mel Kiper, Jr., might be a little bit biased about Stafford. He predicted before he had even started one game at the collegiate level, that Stafford would eventually be the first pick in the NFL draft. The draft is April 25-26, and the Lions, 0-16 last season, have the first pick. Of course Lion fans remember the team’s and Kiper’s perhaps most well known mistake, when he stated that USC wide receiver Mike Williams would be the best player in the 2005 draft class, and then Matt Millen picked him. Williams is out of football and Matt Millen who was president of the Lions football team for the worst 8-year run in the history of the NFL is now an NBC ‘Expert’ Analyst (scary). One hopes that the Lions might be a little smarter this time around, even with pea-brained Lion owner William Clay Ford still calling the shots.
