Rush Limbaugh Dropped like Hot Potato from NFL Bid

October 15, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Take note GOP, addition by subtraction could work well for you too!  Rush Limbaugh’s dream of owning an NFL team is dead, after sports mogul Dave Checketts, ringleader of the group bidding on the St. Louis Rams cut bait and released radio’s Jabba the Hutt.  Checketts who owns the St. Louis Blues, released a statement Wednesday announcing that the multi-millionaire sports fanatic would not continue as a limited partner in their group:

“It has become clear that his involvement in our group has become a complication and a distraction to our intentions; endangering our bid to keep the team in St. Louis. As such, we have decided to move forward without him,” Checketts said.

For the group to successfully purchase the Rams, three-quarters of the NFL’s 32 other owners would need to approve their bid, and the controversial radio host’s myriad enemies and racially charged history were proving to be a liability. The NFL’s players union, which has a majority of black members, had come out strongly against Limbaugh, while some players said they would not play for any team in which he had a stake. In 2003 Limbaugh said that McNabb was over-praised as a quarter-back because he was black.

Limbaugh a native of Missouri, had remained stalwart in his bid to the bitter end, announcing early this week, “I am not even thinking of exiting.”  Limbaugh, then tried to turn the heated controversy about his potentially owning a franchise into a referendum on the state of the nation, of course. On his radio program yesterday, he reportedly yammered about how the outrage over his attempt to join the elite billionaires boys club was “the ongoing effort by the left in this country, wherever you find them, in the media, the Democratic Party, or wherever, to destroy conservatism, to prevent the mainstreaming of anyone who is prominent as a conservative.

“Therefore,” Limbaugh added, “this is about the future of the United States of America and what kind of country we’re going to have.”

The nation has now clearly spoken, and it prefers to leave racists on the sidelines.
