Report: Brian Kelly will be named the next coach at Notre Dame

December 10, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Cincinnati Bearcats coach Brian Kelly will be the new coach at Notre Dame, the South Bend Tribune is reporting. Notre Dame started searching for a new coach about a week and a half ago, since firing Charlie Weis after five seasons. Kelly, who has coached  Cincinnati’s football team to a 12-0 record this season and a berth in the Sugar Bowl, is expected to address the Notre Dame situation with the Bearcats at their annual football banquet tonight (Thursday). Cincinnati announced it will bar media from the banquet. The 47-year-old Kelly is 34-6 in three seasons at Cincinnati, leading the Bearcats to back-to-back Big East titles and two straight Bowl Championship Series berths. The source told the Tribune details of an agreement were finalized Wednesday night, the groundwork laid during a meeting last week with representatives of Notre Dame, within days of Cincinnati winning the Big East championship at Pittsburgh.
