Update: NFL Star Chris Henry ‘battling for life’ after domestic dispute has died

December 17, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry is reportedly “battling for his life” after falling from the back of a pickup truck Wednesday, in what police described as a domestic dispute with his fiancee Loleini Tonga.   Henry and his fiancée reportedly were staying at her parents’ home and planning their wedding. According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police spokesman Robert Fey, the athlete was found in the road approximately eight miles north of Charlotte, “suffering life-threatening injuries.”

Henry reportedly jumped into the bed of a pickup truck on Wednesday as his girlfriend was speeding away from the residence, according to The Charlotte Observer.  The argument continued as she drove away and he was eventually thrown from the vehicle about a half mile from the home where the couple have been living with their three children; DeMarcus, 10 months, Seini, 3, and Chris Jr., 2.  No charges have been filed in the incident so far.

Henry’s agent Andy Simms of PlayersRep Sports said in a statement: “We ask everyone to pray for Chris. We also ask that you respect the privacy of Chris’ family. Chris is indeed battling for his life tonight, and our thoughts and prayers (are) with him during this extremely difficult time.”

Henry has been on injured reserve with the Bengals since November 9 due to a dislocated forearm.  Drafted in 2005, Henry is no stranger to problems off the field. He was arrested several times before being released by the Bengals in 2007 and then re-signed to a two-year contract with the team before the 2008 season.

Update: TV news and the Charlotte Observer reports say Chris Henry has succumbed to his injuries and died this morning at 6:36 AM EST.
