13-year-old quarterback commits to USC
February 5, 2010
(ChattahBox) – With the 2010 collegiate recruiting season all but over many coaches are well into working on the class of 2011. But new USC Trojans coach Lane Kiffin has turned his attention to the Class of 2015. Say what? You see there is this 13-year old wunderkind quarterback David Sills of Bear, Delaware who came to coach Kiffin’s attention via the phenoms personal coach Steve Clarkson, who has mentored some of the game’s best quarterbacks including current USC starter Matt Barkley.
Clarkson asked Kiffin to watch a video of Sills that is making the rounds on YouTube above and immediately heard back from the USC coach, who said:
“He was like, ‘This kid is incredible.
A couple of hours later, the Sills family called Kiffin and they spoke for the first time. USC had always been Sills’ dream school, according to his father, David Sills IV.
Thursday evening Kiffin received a verbal commitment from Sills, which is pretty much like a promise ring. It’s not binding in anyway until a letter of intent is signed in 2015 upon his projected graduation from high school. While his personal coach Clarkson is effusive in his description of his protege:
“His skill set is off the chart. I’ve never seen anyone at his age do what he’s been able to do.”
He’s already six feet as a 13-year old,” Clarkson said. “And he’s breaking down NFL footage.”
It’s harder to project how a player as young as Sills will develop physically in a sport like football.
