US vs. Canada Men’s Olympic Hockey Showdown
February 27, 2010
(ChattahBox)—The Vancouver Olympics has produced some great hockey and spirited competition between the US and Canadian teams. The Canadian women beat out the Americans for the gold medal, producing one of those Olympic brouhaha moments, when the Canadians flush with victory, celebrated on the ice with beer and cigars. Now, it’s the men’s turn to shine, when the Americans and Canadians play for a gold medal on Sunday. And all of America and Canada will be watching on Sunday, as the two talented Olympic hockey teams play for the ultimate prize.
The American Olympic hockey team already beat the highly-favored favored Canadian team 5-3 in a preliminary game last Sunday. The Canadians dispatched Slovakia yesterday, 3-2 to advance to the gold medal game. And the Americans crushed Finland 6-1 in a match that was largely over in the first period of play.
The Olympic US team is unbeaten so far. U.S. captain Jamie Langenbrunner said after the Finliand win, “We believed we could win a gold medal. Now we have the opportunity.”
The big game will be televised live on Sunday at high noon.
