Mounting Questions Over The Death Of Golf Pro Erica Blasberg
May 12, 2010
Blasberg was found dead in her Las Vegas home this week after a 911 call brought police to her body.
Her bags were packed to go to a tournament in Alabama, the first she had played this year after a disappointing year on the course in 2009, where she only brought in $26,000.
She had been struggling with things on and off the golf course, but despite this her family says they have no idea what might have led to the young woman’s sudden death.
“She did everything right, and she’s not immune to the pressures of golf; she’s not immune to the pressures of life,” her father, Mel Blasberg said.
“This is a story about how you raise a kid and they came out OK. And now, something happened and we have to find out what it is.”
The details about her death are still hazy, even for police.
They won’t say who made the 911 call, or exactly what they found when they got there. But the fact that they are investigating all possible options, including homicide and suicide at either end of the spectrum, is telling.
Until the nature of her death is found and confirmed, the golf world will continue to be shook by the pain of losing such a promising young player before she had managed to reach her prime.
Our condolences to the Blasberg family.
