Google Media Server Brings PC Entertainment To Your TV
June 29, 2008
Washington (ChattahBox) - Google has announced the launch of the Google Media Server, bringing PC media consisting of videos, photos, music, and more to your TV.
The Google Media Server will hook up with any digital device that supports Universal Plug and Play, or UPnP.
Devices such as the Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PS3, and others will be able to access the content from their PC, whether it is on YouTube or on your hard drive.
This brings Google a step closer to moving into the market of home entertainment.
The Google Media Server works only on Windows machines, and requires the user to install Google Desktop applications on their PC.
The software uses the Desktop Search feature to find files on the PC and on the Web, and then streams them.
