Sony To Launch PS3 Firmware 2.40 Wednesday, In-Game XMB

Washington (ChattahBox) - Sony confirmed on that they will release the highly-anticipated PS3 firmware update 2.40 this Wednesday, July 2nd. The firmware update introduce both the in-game XMB, as well as Trophies.
The PS3 firmware 2.40 update is the latest major update upcoming from Sony.
The most notable addition to the PS3 with this update will be the in-game XMB which will be added in through the download.
The in-game XMB will allow gamers to check who is online, read and send messages, and much more simply by hitting the PlayStation button on their controller at any time.
The other major addition is the introduction of Trophies to the PS3. These are the Sony version of Achievements on the Xbox 360, and will be awarded when you complete things in PS3 games.
Once you complete certain tasks, you will receive these Trophies to show off and show your accomplishments.
Games will allow you to earn gold, silver, and bronze trophies, as well as a platinum trophy if you manage to earn all of them.
There is no word yet if you will receive Trophies for things you did in the past in PS3 games.
