Sony, HP Working Together On New Digital Tape Standard

Sony Corp. is working along with Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) on a new standard for digital tape storageBoston (ChattahBox) – Sony Corp. is working along with Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) on a new standard for digital tape storage.

HP and Sony are working on this new improved digital tape standard which will be geared towards businesses looking to back-up data in case of emergency restore situations.

Once the technology is good to go, each company will ge on their own selling tape drives and cartridges based on the technology they develop.

Sony will first market their DAT 320-type drives to businesses, and expand from there.

The new digital tape standard is expected by next year.
