The EU ran an investigation of over 500 web sites across all EU member states, and found that over 80% of them needed further investigation.

The majority were found to be suspected of violating EU consumer rules, having to do with pricing, and luring people into contracts and subscriptions.

The EU launched the investigation into the 558 sites after they received complaints from customers.

The majority of these sites offer “free” ringtones aimed at teenagers and children, getting them to sign up for contracts without them knowing.
