The release comes from the iPhone-Dev Team, who is known for hacking the original iPhone.

The new software called Pwnage 2.0, manages to jailbreak the brand new iPhone 3G, allowing users to run third-party applications on it, among other things.

What it does not do though is it does not unlock the iPhone 3G, meaning it cannot be unlocked to work on unnauthorized cellular networks.
