Mother Stands Up To The Big Bad Music Industry, Prince
July 21, 2008
Hollywood (ChattahBox) - A Pennsylvania mother, Stephanie Lenz, stood up to the big bad music industry and won, as she refused to back down from Universal Music Group, and Prince.
About a year ago, Universal Music Group handed an order to the mother to remove a 30-second YouTube video showing her infant son dancing to Prince - Let’s Go Crazy.
She fought back and won, arguing that the video was protected under the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, and the Fair Use provision in copyright law.
She filed a lawsuit against Universal Music Group, who has since droppec the claim against the video.
The video clip has since been put back online, as she works with the Electronic Frontier Foundation to help continue her push against the music industry.
Attorneys for the mother were in court on Friday morning as they tried to keep the lawsuit alive, and did so successfully.
Lawyers are pushing for Universal Music Group to compensate Lenz for the troubles of the false accusation and the work to remove the clip.
