The company has come out and stated that from this point forward, it will be free of charge to gamers.

Games for Windows Live will no longer charge gamers monthly to take part in the online gaming platform. This comes as Microsoft has been hit with stiff competition from rival services, which were also free.

Games for Windows Live has the same set-up as Xbox Live on the Xbox 360, and is also cross-compatible.

Users are given a GamerTag, which is their online identity, as they can then make a profile, record stats across games, etc.

So from now on, if you want Games for Windows Live, you don’t have to pay a penny.
