YouTube, Google Hit With $780 Million Lawsuit By Italian Company
July 31, 2008
Washington (ChattahBox) - An Italian media company by the name of Mediaset has filed a $780 million lawsuit against YouTube, as well as its parent company Google.
This lawsuit comes as YouTube is already facing a $1 billion copyright infringement lawsuit filed by Viacom.
Mediaset filed the lawsuit, alleging that YouTube hosts and illegally distributes their content.
A report released back in June revealed that YouTube features over 325 hours of Mediaset programming, with nearly 4,700 clips in total.
The company put out a statement Wednesday saying “Given the information that’s come to light and the quantity of illegal files on the site, it’s possible to say that the group’s three TV channels lost 315,672 audience viewing days.”
