Zephyr Solar-Powered Plane Smashes World Record

The Zephyr Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) from QinetiQ has smashed a world record for a solar-powered plane....Washington (ChattahBox) – The Zephyr Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) from QinetiQ has smashed a world record for a solar-powered plane.

The reports from the maker of the plane, QinetiQ, has come out and stated that their Zephy has managed to smash a world record.

The world record was for the longest continuous solar flight. The previous record holder was Northrop Grumman’s Global Hawk.

The Zephyr flew for 83 hours and 37 minutes, and broke the world record, more than doubling it.

The world record, to this point, remains unofficial. Time will tell as to whether or not it will be made official soon.
