GE Debuts World’s First Truly Incandescent-Shaped – CFL Bulb

December 13, 2008

(ChattahBox) — Offering the environmental friendliness of the CFL bulb but also the shape of incandescent bulbs, GE has a new light bulb hitting the market very soon. It’s the world’s first incandescent-shaped CFL bulb and will be frosted in the final product. Protected with more than a dozen U.S. patent applications the miniaturized electronics developed by GE Consumer & Industrial engineers and scientists enable the new CFL bulb to fit inside a typical incandescent bulb glass fixture. The 8,000-hour CFL is guaranteed for 5 years based on 4 hours of daily use.

GE will debut the 9 and 20 watt versions of the bulb nationwide at Target on December 28, 2008, at selected Ace Hardware stores in January, and more broadly around Earth Day (April 22, 2009) at retailers such as Sam’s Club and Walmart. A 100 watt version should be available in 2010.
