YouTube Blocks UK Users From Viewing Music Videos

March 10, 2009

UK (ChattahBox) – In a move sure to cause a backlash, Google has said that they are to start blocking UK users from viewing music videos on YouTube.

The decision was made after negotiations with British record label PRS for Music fell through. They had formerly had an agreement which expired this year, and have so far been unable to resolve their issues.

According to a statement by Google:

“Our previous license from PRS for Music has expired, and we’ve been unable so far to come to an agreement to renew it on terms that are economically sustainable for us. We will be blocking premium music videos in the UK that have been supplied or claimed by record labels.”

The changes went into effect Monday.
