Best Buy to Sell HTC Hero Without Rebate Hassle

September 6, 2009

(ChattahBox)—The long awaited HTC Hero smart phone with its array of personalized widgets is hitting store shelves on October 11, in both Sprint and Best Buy stores, in time for the holiday shopping season. But for those consumers buying the phone from a Best Buy store, they will pay the identical Sprint retail price of $180 without the hassle of mailing in a $100 rebate form and waiting for a check in the mail.

Offering the ultimate in personalization features, the HTC Hero is the first Sprint smart phone using Google’s open source Android operating system. The technological features of the Hero are quite similar to HTC’s earlier Magic phone, with WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth and support for Sprint’s EV-DO mobile broadband network.

The new and improved camera shoots photos with an amazing five megapixels, although the video is somewhat lacking. The phone does away with a traditional keyboard and instead comes equipped with a touchscreen keyboard on a large 3.2-inch HVG screen.

The HTC Hero offers plenty of new apps and widgets that make it easier to use Google services and social networking sites. One of the new widgets certain to become a favorite is HTC’s Peep, a version of Twitter.

Buyers will need to purchase a two-year Sprint contract to walk out of the store with an HTC for the $180 base price.

I can’t wait to get my hands on this phone. Palm Pre & HTC Hero, all I need now is a way to charge them both with one charger.
