Porn Domain Type Officially Approved

June 25, 2010

Brussels (ChattahBox) – Good news from Brussels for the porn industry, after the .xxx domain was finally given initial approval after a long fight the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

The domain was initially approved by ICANN in 2005, but the decision was revoked after the group gave in to pressure from Conservative lobby groups that disapproved of a domain dedicated to pornography.

Originally, the argument was that the .xxx domain was obscene, inappropriate, and would make it too easy for children to find pornography. Which makes you wonder why the groups aren’t trying to ban Google.

ICANN admitted that the refusal for the domain was “not consistent with the application of neutral, objective and fair documented policy”.

In layman’s terms, they messed up.

A panel of judges agreed, and last February the group was forced to reopen the file on .xxx.

It has now been approved, and so the domain will go forward.
