Netflix Releases App for iPhone, iPod Streaming
August 26, 2010
(ChattahBox) – Netflix has posted a press release today that announces the release of their streaming service for iPhone and the iPod Touch, which we have been eagerly waiting for since the website said they were considering creating an app in April.
The app for iPad streaming was already quite popular, and offered a great way to watch their instant content from anywhere using the tablet. But it left a serious gap in availability for users with other Apple devices.
After posting a blog entry asking users what they thought of extending that service to the iPhone, Netflix saw a positive enough response to get started on the details. Because of the wide use of the same operating system and capabilities, the iPod was also roped into the deal.
You can now download an app for $8.99 a month that will give full streaming access to any device running a iOS version of 1.13 or higher, which is a fair chunk of Apple users.
This only applies to people who already have a Netflix account, or plan on getting them. But even with their highest tier of service (4 at a time DVD rental that includes streaming), you would still pay less than $35 a month.
For a cheaper option, you could get a 1 at a time account, which offers one DVD per order as many times as you like a month, the streaming service, and the iPhone service for around $18 a month.
