Yahoo! Drops In Popularity As Bing Overtakes Search Results

September 15, 2010

(ChattahBox Technology News) – Microsoft has managed to shoot past Yahoo! as the number two search engine on the web, a spot behind Google as their popularity increases.

Bing, MSN and Windows Live all saw a jump in their use by .25% of the net’s overall searches, while Yahoo! has seen a drop in 1.5%, enough to push them down under Microsoft.

It is a good sign for Bing, which has had less-than-stellar results in the net’s search results, with a wide margin still being covered by Google. Yahoo’s slip seemed to be more from a drop in use than in Microsoft managing to get a lot of new users. But it might be enough to gain an extra bit of headway and maintain their new position as the second most used search engine.

This should be further pushed by the deal slowly beginning to take effect which would have Microsoft handling all of Yahoo’s searches within Canada, and eventually in the U.S. But it is unlikely the two will ever be able to push out Google, either by themselves or together.
