New ‘8Pen’ Keyboard App Aims to Revolutionize Typing on Phones (Video)

January 6, 2011

(ChattahBox Technology News)—If you’ve ever sent a message to a friend that looks nothing like the words you intended to type, you’re aware of the frustration that users of smart phones have discovered when typing on a tiny touch screen keyboard. A new Android app intends to change that by introducing a brand-new type of keyboard layout which doesn’t resemble the type of keyboard that you learned how to use in middle school, the Huffington Post reports.

The new app, known as 8Pen, arranges the letters across an X-shaped grid, with a circle in the center that acts as a space bar. The user “gestures around the quadrants” rather than hunting and pecking the old-fashioned way, Huffington Post notes.

8Pen aims to mimic how it feels to write by hand rather than typing, its developers note. For a demonstration of the app, click “play” on the video shown here.
