The plane experienced a mechanical problem which was detected about one hour after it took off from Chicago, heading to Charlotte, North Carolina.

According to reports, the mechanical problems had to do with the pitch of the plane, or the control over the nose of the aircraft.

The plane was an MD-80 Midwest charter. When the problem took place, Obama was sitting in the front of the plane.

While the problem was checked on, Obama, along with his staff and others had to remain onboard.
