Hurricane Dolly appears to be picking up steam in the Gulf of Mexico as it gets closer to reaching land at the border of Texas and Mexico.....Houston (ChattahBox) – Hurricane Dolly appears to be picking up steam in the Gulf of Mexico as it gets closer to reaching land at the border of Texas and Mexico.

U.S. forecasters have stated that Hurricane Dolly could strengthen to a Category 2 storm before it makes landfall later today.

The eye of the storm was about 45 miles east of Brownsville, Texas at 7 a.m. this morning.

The National Hurricane Center has reported that the sustained winds are at around 85 mph, as the storm heads northwest at around 10 mph.

This is the first hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico this season.

It is expected that, over the next few days, Hurricane Dolly could dump up to 10 inches of rain in Texas and Mexico, causing flooding.
