Federal Agents Need No Reason To Take Your Laptop At Border
August 4, 2008
Washington (ChattahBox) - The Department of Homeland Security has revealed new border search policies, allowing federal agents to take your laptop or any other media device for no apparent reason.
Federal agents do not need suspicion or anything of that nature to take your laptop or media device such as an iPod.
They now have the full right to take your devices, search through them for data, and other content for as long as they please.
According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, these new policies went into effect July 16.
This has caused a public outcry, as many state this is both an abuse of power, as well as an invasion of privacy since citizens do not have their medical or financial data protected in any way.
