Gustav Weakens To Category 2 Hurricane As It Hits Land
September 1, 2008
Washington (ChattahBox) - Hurricane Gustav, according to the National Hurricane Center, has weakened and is now a Category 2 hurricane.
Hurricane Gustav made landfall on the Louisiana coast on early Monday morning, with many expecting the worst.
Gustav had been upgraded recently to a Category 3 hurricane, and was feared to slam right into New Orleans.
It has made its impact thus far, but it has thankfully weakened to a Category 2 storm since making landfall.
It is moving northwest near 16 MPH, and is expected to move in this direction for quite some time.
On Tuesday, it is then expected to move west-northwest from there.
The maximum sustained winds have decreased down to around 110 MPH, which could still cause an immense amount of damage.
The weakening is expected to continue after it moves across land throughout the day.
