Michael Mukasey Collapses While Delivering Speech in Washington

November 21, 2008

Washington (ChattahBox) — , 67-year old Attorney General Michael Muasey, collapsed while delivering a speech on the Justice Department’s war on terrorism. The former federal judge was rushed to the nearby George Washington University Hospital when he collapsed at the lectern and lost consciousness. He is “conversant, conscious and alert at the hospital.” “His vital statistics are strong and he is in good spirits,” department spokesman Peter Carr said in a statement. “The doctors will keep him overnight for further observations.

According to one of the lawyers present in the room, Mukasey started struggling with his speech and slurring before he collapsed. He was visibly shaking during his speech and appeared to hesitate as well before collapsing. Some of the attendees including former Att. Gen. Ashcroft formed a circle around him to shield him from sight before the medics arrived.

President Bush was notified about Mukasey’s condition. “The president has him in his thoughts and will be kept apprised and hopes that he will be back up and at ’em again soon,” said Dana Perino, White House Press Secretary.

Mukasey enjoyed a stellar reputation as a federal judge in Manhattan before he joined President Bush’s administration. He became the attorney general exactly one year ago when Alberto R. Gonzales resigned after much criticism about himself and his officials. Mukasey is known for his initiatives like cracking down global organised crime and his credibility in the Justice Department.
