Obama to Celebrate Passover With First Presidential Seder

April 9, 2009

(ChattahBox) — President Barack Obama will be holding a special holiday dinner tonight, inviting close friends and staff to a private White House, but there will be no breaking of bread in this case, just passing the matzoh. In what is believed to be the first presidential Seder in the White House, Obama himself will be honoring the holiday that celebrates the Jews’ biblical escape from bondage in Egypt. Passover began at sundown Wednesday.
A year ago, Obama and most of the invited staff members held a seder during a campaign stop in Pennsylvania. That celebration turned out to be prophetic in its own way. Participants jokingly added the line “next year in the White House!” after the traditional closing line, “next year in Jerusalem.”
