Police arrest Craigslist Killer suspect

April 20, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Boston Police  have arrested an as of now unnamed man they suspect is the “Craigslist Killer,” police sources said, and a press conference is expected later tonight.  Law enforcement officials with knowledge of the investigation said the suspect is a 23-year-old man from Quincy.

The arrest came just hours after police released four new black and white photos showing that the suspect strolled casually to and from his three crime scenes, peering into his blackberry.
The security camera photos taken last Thursday show a 20-something 6-foot-tall blond man in the hallway of a Warwick, R.I., Holiday Inn Express where  Boston’s Caucasian killer held a 26-year-old woman at gunpoint and demanded all her money. The suspect fled when the woman’s husband arrived.

His description also fits the man who Boston Police consider a person of interest in three other attacks, all linked to advertisements on the popular ad Web site Craigslist. Two were masseuses for hire, who advertised their services.  The third was tied to the murder of aspiring actress Julissa Brisman, 26, at the Copley Marriott in Boston. The man seen in the pictures taken in the hotel (above left) are very similar to a surveillance camera photo of the suspect in the murder of Brisman just days earlier.  Detectives also have a match among plastic zip-tie cuffs used to bind all three women.

Update:Philip Markoff, a pre-med student at Boston University with no criminal record, was charged with the armed robbery and kidnapping of another victim, Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis announced Monday evening. Markoff, 22, who is engaged to be married in August to a fellow student he met as an undergraduate at SUNY Albany, according to a Web site the couple created, is suspected in the death of New York City resident Julissa Brisman, 26, who was found unconscious with multiple gunshot wounds at Boston’s Copley Marriott Hotel on April 14. She was transferred to Boston Medical Center, where she died from her injuries shortly afterward. It is believed she died as she confronted Markoff who first tried to rob her.  Previous speculation was that the then unknown assailant may have been motivated by a drug addiction to act so brazenly.
