April 29, 2009

US (ChattahBox) – The first US death from swine flu has been confirmed, after a 21-month-old in Texas passed away in the early hours of the morning.

The death came just hours after CDC officials warned that they were anticipating fatalities as the swine flu continues to pass from person to person. There have been a reported 159 deaths in Mexico so far.

President Obama is urging schools with suspected infected to close down, and has stated that the situation is ‘serious’, as it becomes more obvious that the virus cannot be adequately contained.

“We will be vigilant in monitoring the progress of this flu, and I will make every judgment based on the best science available,” the president said this morning.

There have been 62 confirmed accounts in the US to date, while Mexico has reported cases in the thousands. The virus has also spread to Britain, Spain, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, and Israel, and may have spread to further countries, although accounts are still unconfirmed.

The Texas toddler will mark 160 deaths globally. .
