Airman Saves Plane Of Hundreds After Spotting Fuel Leak

May 15, 2009

US (ChattahBox) – An air force pilot who was on a flight to Japan saved over 300 passengers and airline staff when he alerted the pilot to a fuel leak.

Staff Sgt. Bartek Bachleda had told the stewardess an hour after take off that there was something wrong, and that he thought fuel was leaking from the plane. The flight attendant didn’t pay much mind, until he video recorded the leek, showed her, and let her know that if she didn’t want to crash she needed β€œto inform your captain before we go oceanic.”

The Captain looked at the footage, and said that it explained the problem they had been having regarding fuel amounts mid-air. They knew they wouldn’t make it to Japan, and so turned around and landed in San Francisco, safe and sound.

It may not have been in battle, but Sgt. Bachleda saved a lot of lives that night.
