Obama Nominates Moreno For DOJ Environmental Position

May 16, 2009

US (ChattahBox) – In a surprising move from the president, Ignacia S Moreno has been nominated by Obama to run the Department of Justice’s Environmental Division.

The position of Assistant Attorney General for the Environment is one that holds a great deal of power over the way that environmental issues are addressed, and many would argue that Moreno is far from interested in what is best for the planet.

As a corporate lawyer, Moreno has a long history of defending those who would weaken the standards for pollutants and cleanup. For instance, he defended General Electric when they attempted to weasel out of cleaning up their dump sites, claiming that it was ‘unconstitutional’, and argument that has happily been thrown from the court room after six laughable years.

It doesn’t bode well for the health of the environment if this is the man chosen to run it’s preservation. But who knows, maybe Moreno will surprise us.
