Is Dick Cheney a hypocrite to conservatism for supporting gay marriage?

June 2, 2009

(ChattahBox) — On Monday, former vice president Dick Cheney affirmed that he supports gay marriage as long as it is deemed legal by state and not federal government. Cheney, who is currently on a media blitz in defense of the Bush Administration policy of torture and so-called harsh interrogation practices, has a well deserved reputation as a leader of neo-conservatism. But speaking at the National Press Club for the Gerald R. Ford Foundation journalism awards, Cheney was asked about recent rulings and legislative action in Iowa and elsewhere that allowed for gay couples to legally wed.

“I think that freedom means freedom for everyone,” replied the former V.P. “As many of you know, one of my daughters is gay and it is something we have lived with for a long time in our family. I think people ought to be free to enter into any kind of union they wish. Any kind of arrangement they wish. The question of whether or not there ought to be a federal statute to protect this, I don’t support. I do believe that the historically the way marriage has been regulated is at the state level. It has always been a state issue and I think that is the way it ought to be handled, on a state-by-state basis. … But I don’t have any problem with that. People ought to get a shot at that.”

The fact that he is is the father of an openly gay daughter, and that he is no longer part of an administration which opposed same sex marriage seems to have allowed him to deviate from the official party line and show some humanity in the process.  How ever we are wired at birth, we are still highly influenced and molded by our environment and the things we experience in life.  Given Cheney’s allegiances and track record do you think he would support same sex marriage if his daughter was not gay?  I think not.  Carry that a step further and I wonder what Dick’s hard views would be had his life unfolded differently?

Dick Cheney is a self-centered monster with no ethics, no morals, and no respect for the law or general human rights; he’s a sociopath. His only relationship to conservatism is his ability to manipulate the right-wingers to gain power and wealth for himself.

Well well. Look who’s gearing up for a run in 2012. Nice move Dick. Alienate your brutal party past to appear, shall we say, kinder-gentler.

Cheney is such a horrible person. He is only out to fill his pockets, smear decent people and divide this great Nation of ours. He is everything the GOP does NOT need. Equality for all menkind has surely NOT been the slogan he and Mr. Bush governed by over the last 8 years. For me he is nothing but a weazel!

Forget, please, “conservatism.” It has been, operationally, de facto, Godless and therefore irrelevant. Secular conservatism will not defeat secular liberalism because to God both are two atheistic peas-in-a-pod and thus predestined to failure. As Stonewall Jackson’s Chief of Staff R.L. Dabney said of such a humanistic belief more than 100 years ago:

“[Secular conservatism] is a party which never conserves anything. Its history has been that it demurs to each aggression of the progressive party, and aims to save its credit by a respectable amount of growling, but always acquiesces at last in the innovation. What was the resisted novelty of yesterday is today .one of the accepted principles of conservatism; it is now conservative only in affecting to resist the next innovation, which will tomorrow be forced upon its timidity and will be succeeded by some third revolution; to be denounced and then adopted in its turn. American conservatism is merely the shadow that follows Radicalism as it moves forward towards perdition. It remains behind it, but never retards it, and always advances near its leader. This pretended salt bath utterly lost its savor: wherewith shall it be salted? Its impotency is not hard, indeed, to explain. It is worthless because it is the conservatism of expediency only, and not of sturdy principle. It intends to risk nothing serious for the sake of the truth.”

Our country is collapsing because we have turned our back on God (Psalm 9:17) and refused to kiss His Son (Psalm 2).

PS – And “Mr. Worldly Wiseman” Rush Limbaugh never made a bigger ass of himself than at CPAC where he told that blasphemous “joke” about himself and God.
