Honeymoon Killer Sentenced To 1 Year in Australia May Face New Trial In US

June 9, 2009

Alabama (ChattahBox) – Prosecutors and police in Alabama are preparing for a new trial that they say the man who is believed to have killed his wife in Australia will likely face.

David Watson was originally accused of murdering his wife of ten days during their Honeymoon in Australia.

But in a move that stunned many, and had drawn wide criticism in the media, an Australian judge accepted a plea deal that bumped it down to manslaughter, and means he will only face a year in prison on a suspended sentence. See more details here.

But in a report in the Telegraph, it has been announced that prosecutors back in the victim and suspects home are putting together a case that could mean that Watson will be extradited at the end of his sentence, and retried under US laws.

Currently they are awaiting court documents, and putting together evidence that they hope will prove that Watson planned his wife’s murder in order to claim her life insurance policy.
