Detroit Man Confesses To Being Killer For Hire

June 19, 2009

Michigan (ChattahBox) – A man has confessed while in custody to being a hired assassin, and participating in paid murders over the course of two years.

According to Vincent Smothers, a softly spoken young man, he would stalk his victims, shoot them in the head, and then leave the scene, often committing the murders while no the phone with those that had hired him, in order to prove that it had been done.

All of his assassinations had been drug related, the victim’s often dealers who owed money, or had committed violent crimes themselves. All but one.

in 2007, Smother’s admitted to killing Rose Cobb, the wife of Detroit police Sergeant David Cobb, who had hired him to kill her in order to continue carrying out an extramarital affair. Cobb committed suicide a few months later.

“My stomach was in knots, I felt like she was innocent. All the rest were dope dealers,” Smother’s was quoted in AP News.

But his attorney is seeking to have the confessions thrown out, which he says were coerced by a long and stressful interrogation. The police deny this claim, as well as that Smother’s only confessed to save his wife from being charged as his accomplice.

Smother’s has been charged in eight murders, and says that he hopes that while his conviction or confessions won’t bring his victims back, that perhaps the families can find peace knowing the man responsible is paying for the crimes.
