Gov. Sanford’s Trip to Argentina Was to Cheat on His Wife and Four Kids

June 24, 2009

(ChattahBox)—In a shocking revelation, Gov. Mark Sanford just admitted in a televised press conference that he has been cheating on his wife Jenny for the past year with a woman in Argentina, and that he recently flew to the South American country to be with her.

He also admitted he misled his staff concerning his whereabouts these past few days, falsely telling them he was planning to go hiking on the Appalachian Trail.

Gov. Sanford appeared at a scheduled news conference amid rumors and speculation regarding his mysterious disappearance, since last Thursday.

As he began his news conference, he set the groundwork for the revelations to come saying, “I’ll lay it out and it’s going to hurt and I’ll let the chips fall where they may.” He then rambled on with numerous apologies to his wife, children, his staff and others, before making the admission that he had been cheating on his wife.

Sanford said he met this woman who resides in Argentina, eight years ago and they remained friends who exchanged emails. Since this past year, their relationship became more intimate and he intimated that he had fallen in love with the woman.

Sanford said he has met with the woman three times this past year and that she has two children.

He spoke of his sins and fall from grace, referring to God’s laws, which exist to protect us from ourselves. “All I can say is I apologize,” said Sanford.

Sanford, responding to a reporter’s question, said his wife and father-in-law knew of the affair, as he and his family have been dealing with his infidelity for the past five months.

When asked if he was alone in Argentina, Sanford responded, “Obviously Not.”

He said he was resigning as head of the Republican Governors Association, immediately.

When asked if he was resigning as Governor of South Carolina, he didn’t respond and walked away.

Gov. Sanford has four sons with his wife, Jenny and has expressed aspirations for a run at the presidency in 2012, which now seems highly doubtful.
